Lee and the Sea Things

A young girl called Lee watches her father working in his garden and goes on a mission to find out why she doesn’t have a mother like all the other children. She learns the story of the Sea Things who had an encounter with her mother and eventually took her away into the deep. Lee goes to meet them and realises that they are not as scary if you go openly.

When a close friend of mine died after falling into depression, I wanted to make something for her three-year-old daughter to express my feeling that she was not taken by something inside of her but by an external force: a disease that she was not able to battle. It took me seven years to finish. The result is Lee and the Sea Things and so far only 3 copies have been made. Extracts of the book have been shown at Reinbeckhallen in Berlin, at the International Festival of Journalism in Couthures sur-Garonne and at Si Fest in Reggio Emilia.
